This review comes with a brief story. Before kids, my wife and I traveled frequently. On a cruise to the southern Caribbean, we discovered Tortuga rum cakes. Almost every shop at every port-of-call had samples of their various flavors on a tray to entice shoppers into taking one or more home with them. I despise shopping, but I LOVED Tortuga rum cakes. That enticement alone found me gladly following my wife along from store-to-store gobbling-up rum cake at every tourist trap gift shop on every island we visited. Some days, rum cake was my only food. Since that trip, I've never found a rum cake remotely similar to Tortuga. That is until one day when my mother-in-law brought us one of Nana's originals as a holiday treat. OMG! They are the exact texture and flavor of my beloved Tortuga! In fact, they may taste slightly better. They are definitely moister. I've never been to Nana's bakery, but I have tasted Caribbean heaven from a Nanas Rum Cakes box. My only regret is we don't live closer.
